What is AIDS Calgary?
Since 1983, AIDS Calgary Awareness Association has helped people learn about, prevent and live with HIV/AIDS. We can't ignore the fact that HIV/AIDS exists, and that there is still no cure for this disease. But there are many things we can do to prevent its spread and make life better for those who are infected and affected. AIDS Calgary promotes the healthy choices people can make to reduce their risk of getting or spreading HIV/AIDS. They also work to reduce the harmful effects of HIV and AIDS by providing programs and services that help people living with HIV/AIDS make healthy choices and enjoy a better quality of life. Did you know that 1400 people in Calgary live with HIV/AIDS? AIDS Calgary acts as advocates for those living with HIV/AIDS by promoting awareness of HIV issues and battling misunderstandings and prejudice. Through partnerships with others in the community, they strive to develop a caring and compassionate society.
In 2009 we started to support AIDS Calgary by helping to organize and volunteer at their Annual AIDS Walk. In 2010 Tehillah helped by walking in the AIDS Walk for Life and it was a great success. We had a team of 27 walkers, and we raised $3943.83 in support of AIDS Calgary! This year on September 25th, 2011 we again took part in the AIDS Walk. We had a strong team of eighteen volunteers along the walk route, as cheerleaders for the walkers, and we had a team of 6 walkers that created a banner and proudly supported Team Tehillah! We have just started to journey with AIDS Calgary but we feel strongly that God cares about those suffering from this agonizing disease that often isolates those who live with it. As there is no cure for AIDS, we endeavour to support in anyway we can and to bring awareness about those who suffer from this life ending sickness.
There are many ways that you can be involved including volunteering with AIDS Calgary, creating awareness about the AIDS walk, and joining with team tehillah next year in the walk. If you have questions about Tehillah's involvement with AIDS Calgary, or questions about how you can get involved, please contact Ariel Wood at 403.444.7399 or at awood@fachurch.com
It’s really simple. Loveworks runs 2 8-week challenges each year (spring and fall) and challenges all who join to do 5 things: (1) Grab Your Friends; (2) Choose Your Cause; (3) Create Your Campaign; (4) Change Your World; (5) Tell Your Story
Teams register online and create their own profile page that allows them to spread the word to their friends about their project. Teams spend 8 weeks along with other teams across the country doing something creative to raise awareness in their community about an area of global need and raising money that is used to change lives in 8 areas of need through identified development partners.
Jesus calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves and in today’s global village the AIDS orphan in Africa is just as much our neighbor as the person living down the street. We believe that Jesus was who he claimed to be and we desire to follow in his footsteps out of love for him and because he showed us what perfect love for humanity looks like. If you’re ready to get started !
Sanctus Paths To Leadership is a school designed to develop emerging leaders; both bi-vocational marketplace ministers who desire to lead and pastor a community of believers while remaining in their current career, and those who share the same desire but sense a tug toward full-time vocational ministry. Our mission is to inspire, train and motivate aspiring church planters to specifically target the emerging generation. Based upon the ministry philosophy and values of First Assembly, Sanctus prepares participants by focusing on character and leadership development, and by allowing them to gain experience and exposure in real ministry situations.
